Support for Teen Mothers

Programs

Second Chance Homes

Tapestry’s Second Chance Homes provide a safe, structured and caring environment for teen mothers and their children. Tapestry accepts referrals on a statewide basis.  Young mothers who become residents at Tapestry are identified through referrals from Georgia Departments of Family and Children Services (DFCS), the Task Force for the Homeless, and other organizations that work with homeless or at risk populations.  Tapestry Youth Ministries’ mission is to equip the young parents to become self-sufficient and help prepare their children for school. These homes provide comprehensive supportive services to young mothers that include parenting skills, child development, family budgeting, health and nutrition and other skills to promote the long term economic independence and well-being of the mother and child.

Transitional Living Program

Tapestry Youth Ministries recently purchased a duplex to be used for a Transitional Living Program (TLP).  This program will be designed to meet the needs of at-risk and homeless teen mothers 18-23 years of age with supportive services as they transition into adulthood.  The Transitional Living Program will be part of the continuum of care that Tapestry provides to Georgia’s at-risk and homeless teen mothers.  Tapestry Youth Ministries’ emphasis on education and meeting the teens at the point of their deepest need is part of a strong multi-faceted support system including: housing, case management, education, basic life skills training and mentoring. For more information on the Tapestry Transitional Living Program, click here: TLP Brochure-3.docx (18,1 kB)
Eagles on the Move

In 2008, Tapestry expanded its educational enhancement program to include the students of College Park Elementary and Woodland Middle Schools.  As Title I schools, both have a disproportionate number of students who fall below the poverty level and may require additional supports to be successful in school.  The “Eagles on the Move” summer academic enrichment program focuses on math, language and reading. A grant from Fulton County Human Services enables Tapestry to offer the morning academic portion at no cost to participants.  The aftercare portion is provided by Providence Baptist church and offered at a nominal fee.
